In 1999 it was time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mini. The little car that seduced a whole world had been launched in 1959 och now a Jubilee Edition came to the showrooms.
A devoted Mini enthusiast in Sweden couldn’t resist and traded his ´97 Mini for the new Jubilee version in the burgundy color Mulberry. It was the 7th generation of the Mini, a Mk VII, but under the hood the faithful 1275 cc engine still resided. It had been a Mini trademark since 1965, but now it had direct injection and produced 63 horsepower. Inside the car an airbag could be found in the steering wheel, inorder to fulfill safety regulations.
16 of these Jubilee Edition were sold in Sweden.
The car was sparingly driven during two summers and then put away in a safe corner of the garage as a Sleeping Beauty, awaken only once a year for a warm up.
”It just turned out to be that way…” comments the owner who spent more time with his older Minis. The result is a 23 year old Mini that looks, smells and drives like a new one - not a surprise with only 227 kilometers on the clock.
The production of the Mini in its original shape, the ”Classic Mini”, ended in 2000 after close to 5,4 million cars made during 41 years. It came to represent the expression ”Retro cool” more than any other car.
The auction of the new old Mini closes 18 August and the value is estimated to between 300 and 350 000 SEK.
